Overview

I'm Sandy63 and actually am 63 and first faced the Challenges of Kidney Cancer in 2003. The disgnosis was totally out of the blue. We had relocated from Hampshire to West Berkshire and as a new patient with my GP I had a blood test which showed I had high liver function. I was referred to a BUPA Consultant and following an Ultrasound Scan which showed the kidney tumour I had a nefrectomy in the BUPA Ridgeway Hospital. From then I was very well, and still am, until the result of the latest annual scan which showed the nodules in the lung and soft tissue in the adrenal. I am happily married (second time around) for 5 years now to a wonderful guy, have a daughter who is 26 (she lives in London) and both are extremely supportive and ready for whatever comes our way. I live in Great Shefford near Hungerford in Berkshire.

  • The Op. & The Road Back

Had a dreadful experience in Hospital. The Lobectomy went badly, really badly. They managed to slice through my main artery and then had to give me 6 units of blood. They lost me on the table and whilst giving CPR broke a rib (more of this later). To top it all the middle lobe was fused to the upper one so instead of taking one lobe they took two. Horrible time in hospital but I got home in five day. Back to the broken rib - this was the most pain I have ever experienced and really held back my recovery.

Further bad news - Follow up appointment and I am advised that there was no cancer in the lobe! They think it was scar tissue from TB which I had when I was 17. This is being further investigated.
