15-Dec-2007 - An Introduction
Hi,
I am Dai Oakley, I live at Shrewsbury. I am 62 years old, married and lived what I would describe as a normally active life until an industrial injury curtailed my activities nine years ago. I used to be a smoker. I used to make my own cigarettes. I used Black Cherry flavoured pipe tobacco. I also rolled my own cigars, whoppers. Churchills looked like mere Hamlets by comparison. I gave up smoking in January this year. I imagine that I had smoked the equivalent of 20 cigarettes a day since I was 18 years old.
What follows seems somewhat surreal to me.
I spent my early years in the army with a chap called Greg Lance-Watkins. We spent much of our time together, not joined at the hip but more often than not, by a rope – we did a fair amount of rock climbing. We parted company and then some 15 years later we met up again as colleagues in the philatelic industry. We drifted apart again until G.L-W became a customer of mine via EBay about a year ago! Although we have not met up this time yet, we speak often and at length on the telephone. Greg invited me to take a look at the Kidney Cancer Resource. I was very impressed with it as a site and have mentioned it whenever I have come into contact with a medic (which has been seldom). Little did I imagine that I would be looking at this site with a real personal need for information and advice it offers.
What follows is my effort to tell you of my experiences. I hope it helps you. If it does, I shall be delighted. Please read on:
