Obituary
My lovely Dad - Derek Allen - passed away in the early hours of this morning.
Dad was diagnosed with Kidney Cancer in June 2007. Rose and Julia were fantastic in helping me put together a successful application for Sutent. He took this for 2 cycles, but suffered terribly with the side effects. Sadly, sutent didn't work for Dad, and he passed away peacefully in his sleep, with Mum at his side.
Dad was 76. He married the woman of his dreams, and adored her throughout the 45 years of their marriage.
Although he was a quiet, unassuming man, he was a true gentleman - widely liked and respected by the many people in his community and beyond. He worked tirelessly throughout his retirement to help others. He was a Parish Councillor for many years; he was the key founder of the Millenium Green - which converted a piece of wasteland into a lovely park which is enjoyed by the whole village; he designed and helped build the "sensory garden" in the grounds of the local hospice; and he was also a volunteer driver for the hospice for many years. Perhaps more importantly were the small things he did - he touched many people with his kindness, consideration, and integrity.
I feel very privileged to have been his daughter. Thank you Dad for all you did for me, and all you taught me. I'll miss you.
Belinda
